The Great Wall of China, 1989 by DaveR99 The Great Wall of China, 1989 by DaveR99
Since I've joined Deviant Art, the travel images that I've posted have been of my recent journeys. I have, however, been traveling with my camera since 1980, so I've thought about raiding the vault to scan and post some of those golden oldies from the days when I shot with 35mm slide film. (Remember Kodachrome, anyone?).

My first oldie is not from 1980. I have recently been corresponding with a fellow Deviant named Katharine (say 'hi' to everyone, Kat) who recently spent time studying in China. To give her an idea of how that country looked 18 years ago, I'm beginning with images from my grand 3 1/2 week trip to China in 1989.

China has changed tremendously since then, but I'm beginning with an image of one of it's most timeless and enduring monuments - the Great Wall. There are several places where the wall has been restored and this photo was made at Badaling.

(A note to anyone who plans to visit China and go to the Wall - wear shoes that grip well. One does not walk the Great Wall so much as climb it. Many parts of it are at steep angles and sometimes even require one to walk up steps - some of which feel as if they're going straight up!)

Stay tuned for more.

I like the way you've caught it.
And it's funny because I'm born in 1989 and have walked on that wall :)

There's so much history behind that great wall, you're a very lucky person to have seen it for yourself. Outstanding picture.

Beautiful, I like how you have the right wall coming out the right corner of the image, it makes your eye follow the form of the wall.
